FOR BRAVADO
(Video x 2, live 2 channel audio feed, MARCH 2015)
The installation takes the form of two spaces, PART1 and PART2.
Combined DVD/TV playing Karaoke DVD (with sound) on loop. Two microphones on stands are placed dircetly in front of TV and are connected to mixer behind TV. It is intended that viewers/listeners will speak/sing through the microphones. The audio from the microphones is then fed live to PART2.
Monitor playing performance video on loop (via media player). Each microphone from PART1 is fed into one of the left and right sides of the headphones, which are situated next to monitor in order to ensure the participant listens to headphones whilst watching monitor.
FOR BRAVADO as a whole installation intends to introduce participants perception of an event to my perception of an event at the same time as playing back the documentation of my attempts at experiencing Terence Bull's experience of the original event.
The crucial task behind FOR BRAVADO is how far can it can take a personal experience and use it to explore the depths of relationships with others. The content of the work throws up many questions regarding my own lived experience of the event in terms of my awareness and the conscious effects of that time. The content is not chosen for macabre qualities but instead for what I recall of the heightened sense of the lived body in terms of my awareness of self and surroundings within a very short space of time after an interaction with another body, albeit a dead one. The intention is to explore how the viewer/listener/participant responds to the individual parts with regard to interaction, self-awareness and hyper-reflection.
