CASTING CALL

Following on from Read Through, I wanted to see what the next step for the script would be once it was placed within another set of parameters.

 

I decided to take the feature-film concept of the source material, Journey Into Self  and apply the associated production process of making a film, as a structure in which to explore encounters and other ideas informing my practice.

 

The idea was to take the script of Read Through and proceed along the production process as though I was going to make a film of the script. This meant that the next logical step in the process should be a casting call or open audition - Paid Opportunity

I decided that I would plan to pay people a nominal fee to ensure the encounter remained within this professional film-process concept. I found that by offering people money for their time I could obtain a disparate and diverse range of participants and not just people who are happy to volunteer for nothing. Ultimately I wanted co-operation and to achieve this there would need to be an exchange. This exchange, along with being an encounter, would act as another controlling function allowing me to extract much more from the participant than if they hadn't felt indebted.
