GROUP ENCOUNTER
After Say Hi From Me I was keen to further develop the role of a script within a group encounter. I ideally wanted to take a natural/unscripted situation and transcribe it for use as a script.
Throughout the MFA I had become increasingly interested in the concept of the Encounter Group,
Carl Rogers and group therapy. This interest was due to the associations that they shared with my practice, such as emphasising how individuals communicate and how they encourage people to see and alter how they behave through others. The Encounter Group was also a perfect template as it could house the diferent behaviours and roles people enact when brought together.
Due to the shared thematics I wanted to explore how an Encounter Group could be reconstructed or restaged as part of a performance/installation.
Journey Into Self would provide the perfect source material as it was a documentary of an Encounter Group from 1968 facilitated by Carl Rogers.
